Sam completed his MA in Counselling Psychology at Western University. As a clinician, Sam draws on empirically-based research to inform his practice. He has published several peer-reviewed articles on loneliness, self-care, and mental health, and uses contemporary literature to inform his practice. He recently completed an internship at the Thames Valley District School Board where he provided individual counselling services for secondary school students, and conducted psychoeducational assessments of primary students; cognitive, social-emotional, behavioural, and classroom-based functioning. Prior to his time at the school board, Sam predominantly worked and volunteered with children with intellectual disabilities. This experience included time spent both in children’s treatment centers and in a 1:1 home-based therapy setting for children with autism and their families. Sam has now extended his therapeutic practice to support adults living with addictions, anxiety, depression, and trauma/

My passion for mental health was ignited during my undergraduate studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland, which I completed in 2006. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience working across diverse clinical settings, including hospital-based care and public health.
I have led the development of Psychological Health & Safety policies in corporate settings. Which combines my extensive psychotherapy background—spanning more than 9 years—with a dedicated focus on workplace mental wellness. I have crafted educational materials and facilitated training sessions to promote psychological resilience within various organizational contexts, underscoring my commitment to fostering healthier, more supportive environments.
I specialize in supporting adults and youth dealing with mental health challenges, trauma, relationship difficulties, disordered eating, and related issues, utilizing a holistic, client-centered approach. My training includes evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Brief Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Informed Care—all tailored to individuals experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, and emotional regulation difficulties.
Addiction is a particular area of expertise for me. I have worked in various capacities—ranging from withdrawal management and opiate case management to therapeutic interventions—allowing me to develop a comprehensive understanding of addiction and recovery processes.
Recently, I earned certifications in Respect in the Workplace and Mental Health Foundations for Leaders, further strengthening my competencies in mental health first aid, social networking, and workplace mental health strategies. I am passionate about advancing mental wellness and addiction recovery, actively participating in local mental health initiatives, and serving on multiple boards and committees within community mental health organizations.
My approach is grounded in creating supportive, stigma-free environments—whether in clinical settings or the workplace—that empower individuals to prioritize their mental well-being.
